They gazed at the sun touching the top of the hill. "I'll race you." Cherish chanted as she took off. He chased after her chipping ahead only slightly. She stopped in her tracks and soaked in the moment: the setting sun, the colors of fall, and Avery. A hint of gold caught in the light of his baby blues as he traced back to her.
He traipsed in far too close. He rubbed his shaven head as he said teasingly, "Oh, come on now. You don't need a breather do you?" She shot him that crooked smile of hers, took his dangling hand and pulled him in. She pecked him on the lips and took off in a dash.

Avery,
I hope you find someone who laughs at your jokes even when they aren't so funny. I hope you find someone someday who will appreciate the way you light up when you talk about the power of an engine. I hope you find the person who loves your family like their own. Find someone who gets butterflies over your silly sideways grin and who will wipe the grease marks from your cheek. Most of all, I hope you find someone you'll want to be with until the end because I am forever grateful that I did. Love always, Cherish Their feelings were diaphanous to everyone except for them. When he entered a room, her eyes lit up with utter delight. Her mere laugh put him in a better mood instantaneously. It was Cherish & Avery. Never one without the other. Were the great friends or fated lovers?
At last, it’s Senior year. The year of Senioritis, college applications, prom, and, finally, graduation day. At least that’s all Avery Campbell expected his year to be, but he had no idea that all of that would change in one instant:
